Fined $4,750 for Moose Shot During Closed Season
Two Coldwater men have been fined a total of $4,750 for infractions involving an illegally killed moose.
John W. Silk pleaded guilty to shooting a bull moose during the closed season and possessing the illegally killed animal. He was fined $4,000 and his hunting licence was suspended for one year.
John Cox pleaded guilty to possessing illegally killed wildlife and was fined $750.
Court heard that conservation officers, responding to a TIPS-MNR complaint, contacted Silk at his residence in Coldwater, on September 29, 2009. Silk admitted to shooting and butchering a bull moose on his property on September 23 and giving some of the moose meat to Cox.
There is no open season for hunting moose in Wildlife Management Unit 76 in the Coldwater area.
Justice of the Peace Connie Hartt heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Orillia, on November 24, 2009.
