Unlawful Removal of Crown Forest Resources Results in $5,000 Fine
A Hearst man has been fined $5,000 for the unlawful removal of Crown forest products.
Louis Audet, 51, pleaded guilty to the offence, which is a violation of the Crown Forest Sustainability Act.
Between March 13 and March 23, 2009, Audet allowed loads of tamarack and birch to bypass an authorized scale. The measurements taken at the scale are used to determine Crown dues owing on harvested timber. The dues help ensure re-forestation takes place.
Justice of the Peace Jean-Marie Blier heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Hearst, on September 8, 2009.
