Living the Dream

| Me and my service dog Cinder. |
Hello, my name is Micah Plourde. I am currently working as a Conservation Officer/Canine Handler with the Investigative Support and Canine Services Unit stationed out of North Bay.
I spend every day on the job working as a team with my service dog Cinder, to provide canine support and investigative assistance to Conservation Officers working in the field as well as other enforcement agencies when required.
Cinder is a highly trained Labrador retriever, specializing in tracking people and recovering evidence, primarily firearms, gunpowder, ammunition and various species of fish and wildlife.
As an MNR Canine handler, I also have the opportunity to conduct canine demonstrations, which provide a huge opportunity for the people of Ontario to learn about Conservation Officers and natural resource conservation and protection efforts within this great province.
In addition to my current responsibilities, I have also taken on duties as a firearms instructor after having completed the OPP Firearms Instructor Course in 2006.

This career path is very rewarding and continues to provide me with ongoing challenges, experiences and work opportunities.
I started my career with the Ministry of Natural Resources in 2000, being involved in various fish and wildlife management projects.
I also worked in the Ontario Parks system for three years. I have now been a Conservation Officer for the past 5 ½ years, having worked in Wawa, Kapuskasing and now North Bay.
I would highly recommend this fulfilling career path to anyone looking for a challenge and interested in the protection of our natural resources for generations to come.
When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, as well as being outdoors, mountain biking, hunting and fishing.
