Level of Emergencies in Ontario

There are four levels of emergencies in Ontario

 

1. Local Incident

 

A local Incident where no emergency declaration is made. The community is able to respond, with limited, or no Provincial assistance.

 

2. Local Emergency is Officially Declared

 

A local emergency is officially declared and is deemed significant to community with threat to property and people. The community responds as able but requires assistance. Provincial assistance is provided. There may be limited or significant level of involvement by MNR depending on the type, extent or complexity of emergency.

 

3. Provincial Emergency is Declared

 

A provincial emergency is declared by the Premier and occurs when an event has such magnitude to community or communities that it has Provincial impact. The Premier selects a Minister to oversee emergency coordination. Emergency Management Operations (EMO) Provincial Emergency Operations Centre is activated. Provincial assistance provided with a high level of involvement. Federal assistance may be required, if requested by EMO.

 

4. National Emergency Declared by Prime Minister

 

When a national emergency declared by Prime Minister the Federal Government liaises with EMO.
