I'm proud to launch Ontario's Lend A Hand: Plant A Tree Challenge.
Planting trees is a meaningful way to fight climate change. They provide beauty, shade, block out noise and hide unsightly views, all while helping to reduce pollution and carbon in our air.
Please spend some time on this website. Learn how you can get involved and let us know if you're planning to plant trees. Share your success stories with others to help inspire your fellow Ontarians to "dig in".
By working together, we can help make Ontario even more beautiful, and a greener and healthier place to live. Let's all lend a hand and plant a tree to make a difference in Ontario.
Donna Cansfield
Minister of Natural Resources
Industrialization and human activities have started to affect the Earth’s natural climate. Increased levels of greenhouse gases cause the atmosphere to heat up. When global warming affects our weather patterns and conditions, it’s called climate change.
In Ontario, average temperatures could rise by as much as three to eight degrees Celsius over the next century.
Planting trees can help fight climate change because trees absorb carbon and pollution from our air, reducing the greenhouse gasses that cause the Earth’s atmosphere to heat up.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and the province of Ontario are committed to reducing the rates of global warming and climate change. Projects such as the 'Lend A Hand: Plant A Tree' Challenge and the ministry’s Our Sustainable Future document are part of a larger effort to fight climate change.
The MNR is working on a number of other initiatives to help address how climate change affects us, including:
