Since the 1980’s, Ministry of Natural Resources’ (MNR) staff have completed or sponsored more than 150 climate change reports and publications.  These publications cover a wide range of research topics related to the effects of climate change on our natural resources.  The Ministry staff and partners are actively working to:

  • understand climate change
  • reduce its impacts and effects
  • find ways to help Ontarians adapt.

A complete list of the Ministry’s reports and publications is available in
“Climate Change Publications, Reports, and Posters Sponsored by MNR and/or Involving MNR Staff”.

The Ministry has developed an interactive mapping tool that shows how different Ontario’s climate might be in the future as a result of increasing the amounts of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.  The maps show potential temperature and precipitation changes that could result from two different scenarios based on different rates of greenhouse gas emission into the atmosphere.

The Climate Change Mapping Browser allows the user to project temperature and precipitation patterns based on the ‘A2’ and the ‘B2’ scenarios of human activity throughout the 21st century.  See how your actions can affect the rate of climate change.Sample image from the Climate Change Map browser

For each scenario of greenhouse gas emissions, you can choose from the following scenarios:

  • projected future average summer temperatures and winter temperatures
  • projected precipitation patterns from April to September or from October to March
  • possible future climates during three different time periods throughout the 21st century
  • all of Ontario or selected parts of the province.
