Interactive Climate Change Mapping Tools

The Ministry has developed two interactive mapping tools that show how different Ontario’s climate might be in the future as a result of increasing the amounts of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

Climate Change Mapping Browser

The Climate Change Mapping Tool allows the user to project temperature and precipitation that could result from two different scenarios based on different rates of greenhouse gas emission into the atmosphere. See how our actions can affect the rate of climate change.

For each scenario of greenhouse gas emissions, you can choose from the following scenarios:
• Projected future average summer temperatures and winter temperatures.
• Projected precipitation patterns from April to September or from October to March.
• Possible future climates during three different time periods throughout the 21st century.
• All of Ontario or selected parts of the province.

The Climate Change in Ontario’s Ecoregions Mapping Tool allows the user to project a shift in the climatic envelope of each of the 14 provincial ecoregions to the end of the century.

These projections of ecoregional climates are based on two scenarios of future atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations used in four of the many global climate models available to climatologists.

For each scenario of greenhouse gas emissions, you can see:
• Current climate envelopes in ecoregions in Ontario.
• Possible future climate envelope in ecoregions in Ontario during three different
time periods throughout the 21st century.
