Fighting climate change is an important environmental priority.
One of the ways Ontario is working to reduce the effects of global climate change is through a partnership with Trees Ontario to plant 50 million trees across southern Ontario by the year 2025. (PDF 1.6Mb)
As they grow, those 50 million trees will help clean our air by removing about 6.6 million tonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere by 2050.
Ontario's commitment is a pledge toward the United Nations' Billion Tree Campaign - which has a goal to plant one billion trees worldwide each year.
Invitation to Landowners
Are you a landowner looking to plant a large number of trees on your property? Ontario's 50 Million Tree Program significantly reduces the costs to landowners of large-scale tree plantings.
The 50 Million Tree Program is funded by the Ministry of Natural Resources and implemented by Trees Ontario, working with local tree planting agencies in Ontario, including Conservation Authorities and local Ontario Stewardship councils. These agencies work directly with landowners to determine site eligibility, allocate funding and coordinate planting.
Interested landowners should contact their local planting agency to determine eligibility. You can locate your local planting agency by visiting the Trees Ontario website.
