The Stand Ecology Program evaluates the differences in ecosystem structure and function in harvested and naturally disturbed forests; primarily black spruce and jack pine dominated ecosites. Our present work focuses on understanding the 1) changes to the physical, chemical and biological properties of soil; 2) the vegetation development and productivity levels; and 3) the drivers (processes) causing these changes or development patterns.

Further program details can be found in the Stand Ecology brochure (pdf - 141kb).
