Biodiversity Protection

The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources is committed to protecting and managing the province's natural resources, or its “natural capital”, and making the interest from that capital available for individuals, communities and economies that depend on it. In doing so, the Ministry contributes to the environmental, social and economic well-being of the people of Ontario, meeting not only today's needs, but also ensuring these resources are available for future generations.

Governments and private organizations working together play critical roles in biodiversity protection and conservation. Partnerships allow for both the public and private sector to become involved in biodiversity projects through education & awareness, development of best management practices, restoration projects and land securement.

There are a number of non-governmental organizations (NGOs - not for profit groups or associations that act outside of political structures) that work towards biodiversity protection and often have ways for the public to become involved through volunteer projects.
