Household garbage is the single biggest attractant for black bears. And once they get a taste for garbage, they will keep coming back, again and again.
Please, store your garbage behind closed doors in your garage, basement, or a secure, bear-proof storage area.
And put garbage out on the morning of garbage day... not the night before.
In an immediate emergency, call your local police, or 911.

60 seconds - BBQ
ANNOUNCER:
Having a barbeque tonight? Will you be cleaning the grill after dinner? Really cleaning it? If not, you could be having overnight visitors... black bears.
Bears' keen sense of smell attracts them to the food odours left on your barbeque grill. So, they come around, foraging for food. Bears have been known to lift barbeques right off peoples' porches.
During bear season, clean that grill after every use. Burn off the food residue and grease... and wash the grill thoroughly, until there's no food odour left.
In an immediate emergency, call your local police, or 911.

60 seconds - Pet Food
ANNOUNCER:
If you feed your pets outdoors, think of this before you go to bed tonight...
Bears aren't pets!
Black bears will often forage for food around human sources.
Your pet's food, left out at night, makes for a handy snack.
And once bears get a taste for an easy meal, they keep coming back.
To avoid attracting bears, feed your pets indoors, and store their food inside your house.
If you must feed your pets outside, put out only enough food for a single meal and keep their empty dishes indoors.
In an immediate emergency, call your local police, or 911.
