Welcome to Pits and Quarries Online. This application will allow for easy access to aggregate operation information, such as, site location, licensee or permittee name, site size, operation type (pit or quarry) and maximum annual tonnage limit.

Definitions:
Operation Type:
- Pit – an operation that excavates loose materials (e.g. clay, sand and gravel).
- Quarry – an operation that excavates solid bedrock through the use of blasting or mechanical separation (e.g. crushing or splitting).
Authority Type:
- Aggregate Licence – required for extraction of aggregate on private land in areas of the province that are designated or listed in the regulations in Ontario.
- Class A Licence – required for operations on private land in areas of the province that are designated or listed in the regulations that remove more than 20,000 tonnes of material from the site annually.
- Class B Licence – required for operations on private land in areas of the province that are designated or listed in the regulations. that remove 20,000 tonnes or less annually.
- Aggregate Permit – required for extraction on Crown land or where the Crown owns the aggregate, and all extraction from land under natural water bodies.
- Wayside Permit - temporary approval for extraction of aggregate for public authority (e.g., Ministry of Transportation, municipality) contracts that are for road construction or maintenance projects. Issued on private land in areas of the province where a licence would normally be required.
