Fire Advisors' Information

Fire Advisors provide expert advice and opinion to the public, associations, companies, and other government agencies on matters involving Forest Fire Management. This is done through outreach opportunities, building networks, and helping stakeholders in developing and growing their expertise to address wildland-urban challenges in their communities.

Common roles of the Fire Advisors include:

• Providing Wildland Fire Management Expertise to MNR Districts and Ontario Parks through enhancing the awareness, recognition and resultant response when addressing Fire Management concerns in Land and Resource Management planning
• Working with Key Stakeholder Groups in the realm of Wildland Fire Management Planning i.e. Municipalities, Community Forest Holders, Stewardship Councils, Office of the Ontario Fire Marshall
• Promoting the FireSmart Communities Program, which is a hazard assessment approach to dealing with community and wildland urban interface issues
• Working with Municipal Fire Services to ensure appropriate wildland fire response to Crown Lands in Southern Ontario, including Emergency Response Planning, training, fire investigation and forest fire suppression equipment advice
• Providing expertise on the ecological role of fire through the use of Prescribed Burning for ecosystem restoration and maintenance
