Hon. Linda Jeffrey
Minister of Natural Resources

Born in Cork, Ireland, Linda Jeffrey has been an active member of the Brampton community since moving there in 1983.

Jeffrey was first elected municipally in 1991 and served four successful terms on Brampton City Council. In 2003, Jeffrey was elected MPP for the riding of Brampton Centre. She was re-elected in 2007 in the riding of Brampton-Springdale. She was appointed Minister of Natural Resources in January 2010.

Since becoming a provincial politician, Jeffrey has focused her energies on securing additional investments in both health care services and capital infrastructure in Brampton. Shortly after arriving at Queen's Park, Jeffrey spoke personally to the Minister of Health and the Premier about Brampton's desperate need for a new hospital. In October 2004, construction crews and the first of seven cranes arrived at the Bovaird Drive/Bramalea Road site. The new Brampton Civic Hospital, a 1.5-million square foot state-of-the-art facility, opened in October 2007.

Jeffrey also worked closely with the Ministry of Transportation to expedite a highway project, which was stalled for over a decade. Today, the extension between Bovaird Drive and Mayfield Road is complete. Commuters began travelling on the much-needed Highway 410 extension in late October.

Jeffrey served as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Children and Youth Services, the Minister Responsible for Democratic Renewal the Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration.

Jeffrey and her husband, John, have three grown sons and a golden retriever.
